Hasbro Gaming - Monopoly Junior Review

I was chosen to participate in a testing campaign by Influenster Canada.  There is nothing more exciting than a new game arriving in the mail!

I was sent Monopoly Junior to play with my kids.  The game was a huge success.  The instructions are simple and playing is straightforward,  Think of it as a simplified and smaller version of the classic Monopoly game.  

The game comes with 4 cute game tokens 

The game only has $1 bills so kids can easily figure out how much they need to give or get. As they move around the board players purchase any unoccupied spaces they land on or pay rent if the spot is already owned.  The chance cards add a fun and exciting element to the game.

My daughters really had fun playing the only downside is they want me to play with them every evening.  I would recommend this game as a first board game for anyone with young kids in their lives.

Plushcraft Rainbow Pillow Review and Giveaway

The wonderful people at Orb Factory sent Boo a fun Back-to-School activity!

She was delighted with the Plushcraft Rainbow pillow kit.  

The Plushcraft kits allow kids to create a pretty pillow with no sewing required.  It was really great as she was able to do it from start to finish on her own, allowing for a real sense of mastery!

It is basically a paint by number but using cloth pieces.  The kit comes with a pre-filled plush pillow that has numbered circles on each.  Each numbered circle has a slit in it. Using the plastic stylus that comes with the kit you place a piece of the fabric, in the colour that corresponds to the number, over the hole and push the fabric in. The stylus is blunt so there is no risk of injury and. The fabric is then held in the correct place (though if you make a mistake it can be pulled out and fixed)

One great feature of this kit is the pillow can be all at once or in stages in a number of settings.  It is easy to put away and continue at another time.

Boo really enjoyed doing the kit (and has been begging for more.) The finished product is now proudly displayed on her bed

Ebates is a great and easy way to save money while making purchases online.  All you need to do is go to the Ebates site and see if the website you are shopping on is registered there.  Ebates will also tell you about current promotions on the website.  Then in order to qualify for the cashback you press the link to the website and make your purchase.  It is easy and free!

Sticky Mosaics Review and Giveaway

School is out, which means the quest for summer activities begins.  I am always on the lookout for fun activities that will not only entertain my girls but also are beneficial to them.

I was sent two great Sticky Mosaic kits from Orb Factory. I got the Journal & Jewel Jewelry Box for Boo and the Hidden Pictures Sea Secrets for the other girls.  They were very excited to get them and couldn't wait to get started.

I love Sticky Mosaics as they work on so many necessary skills, but the kids just see them as a fun activity.  They are also a fabulous therapeutic tool for many different challenges.  Some of the great features are outlined below.  

A child can work on it for as much or as little time in one sitting as their attention span allows; great for bouncy bottoms and many activity sessions.  Each sticker that is put on is a completed task on its own, while also being a part of the larger task.  This builds delayed gratification for the projects.  The series packs takes this to a whole new level! 

Fine motor skills

The pinch to pick up and place down skill, necessary for transfering the single mosaic pieces is perfect for improving and honing fine motor in-hand manipulation, as well as bilateral development.

Visual information processing and discrimination

Visual perception plays an important role in spelling, mathematics, and reading.  The sticky mosaics are fantastic for this because of all the many variations in colour, hues, shapes and textures.

Visual skills

These mosaics are perfect for so many parts of visual and memory development. In the Hidden Picture kits the image slowly emerges exercising visual closure – this is the way your little ones will begin to realize there is a hidden picture for them to reveal! All the while, this is building sequencing skills and exercising visual perception. 

It even helps for “visual figure ground distinction,” the ability to distinguish an object from irrelevant background information. This is an important skill for keeping their place on the line when reading, or watching the teacher as they move around the busy classroom.

They were really excited with the finished projects.  (I don't want to reveal the hidden pictures so only will show the finished dolphin one that is displayed on the cover)

Itzy Ritzy Review and Giveaway

After lots of talk about starting a blog... here we are!

I was chosen to be a brand ambassador for Itzy Ritzy and was sent their Nursing Happens Infinity Breastfeeding Scarf.   The  Nursing Happens Infinity Breastfeeding Scarf can be worn as a scarf and then easily transforms into a nursing cover.  I was really happy with how light and breathable the material was.  It allowed my daughter to stay cool even though she was covered by the scarf while eating.  The coverage it provided when nursing was great, since the scarf wraps fully around the body it covered my back as well which is something many of the traditional nursing covers do not do.  Measuring 28.5" x 34" it was big enough to really cover me but also could be conveniently folded and put in a diaper bag or purse.  I was sent the scarf in Charcoal Haze Chevron (pictured below) and Seaside Stripe Turquoise; the one advantage of the turquoise was the colour is bright on both sides.  The Charcoal Haze scarf needed more attention when worn as a scarf to ensure the underside was not exposed. This product is both designed and made in the US made of 50% cotton and 50% polyester jersey knit.  It is also machine washable which is a huge plus.
